WE RIDE FOR THE CAUSE

Our goal is to raise awareness for Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB)—often called the worst disease you've never heard of—through the use of social media and by supporting DEBRA Australia.
We’re a dedicated group working together to raise funds through business' and private sponsorships, helping families of children living with EB.

HOW IT ALL BEGAN

Back in 2017, a group of close friends who had long been involved in various fundraising initiatives attended the Brighter Days Festival together. Among them was Neale Brumby, then-owner of Heavy Duty Magazine and a major supporter of numerous charity efforts over the years.

Back in 2001, a fundraising initiative created by David Golledge called Harley for Helicopters was launched. It later evolved into Harleys for Humanity, which went on to organise major events such as the Wild Turkey Run to Uralla, attracting up to 450 motorcycles, and the Krankit Ride & Drive Motor Expo — a large-scale car and bike show held in the main street of Wallsend, Newcastle, drawing over 25,000 attendees. Over a span of 15 years, more than $500,000 was raised for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service from these events.

The turning point came during the 2017 Brighter Days Festival. While standing among the crowd of 15,000, attendees watched as Simone Baird and her daughter Eliza Baird share their story. They spoke about life with Epidermolysis Bullosa, a rare and devastating skin condition often described as the worst disease you've never heard of.

The crowd fell silent. Heads were bowed. Tears flowed freely as the harsh reality of this illness touched everyone present. Among those moved by the moment was David Golledge, Neale Brumby and Michael Kearney, who recognised the need to take action. Right then and there, the idea for a dedicated charity ride — Eliza’s Ride for Brighter Days — was born.

The goal was simple: raise awareness and funds to support children and families living with this cruel disease.

On September 1, 2020, Neale Brumby passed away. His legacy as a pillar of the Australian motorcycling community and his tireless support for charitable causes remain deeply respected and remembered. His influence was instrumental in the creation of countless events, and his memory lives on through the ongoing success of Eliza’s Ride and other fundraising initiatives.
